6: 5 Songs Already Dominating My Spotify in April
If you're trying to figure out what actually slaps before the final on May 16, these are the five tracks that have been on repeat for me. No jury talk, just honest earworm status.
1. Finland – Linda Lampenius & Pete Parkkonen – "Liekinheitin"
This one feels like someone set a sauna on fire and turned it into a song.
Linda's violin intro is dramatic on purpose, then Pete comes in with that low, almost spoken Finnish verse. When the chorus drops it's pure stadium chant. I've caught myself humming it while making instant noodles at 11pm, which is probably not the intended use case.
Why it's stuck: it's the only Eurovision entry this year that actually builds. No instant drop, it earns it. My gym playlist thanks Finland.
2. Denmark – Søren Torpegaard Lund – "Før vi går hjem"
Translation: "Before we go home." Vibe: last song at a house party when everyone's a little too honest.
Søren doesn't try to be big. It's just guitar, a soft kick, and that Danish chorus that somehow hits even if you don't speak a word. I played it on a drive to Bandung last week and my friend who hates Eurovision asked me to play it again. That's the test.
Why it's stuck: it's quiet in a year full of people shouting. Feels like a breather between all the pyrotechnics.
3. Austria – Cosmó – "Tanzschein"
Home advantage is real. Cosmó is playing Vienna and he knows it.
"Tanzschein" is basically 3 minutes of dark disco. German lyrics, pulsing bass, and a pre-chorus that sounds like it's made for a TikTok transition. I first heard it in a reel of the rehearsal stage and now Spotify thinks I'm Austrian.
Why it's stuck: it's the song you'll hear in every Eurovision pre-party edit. It's cool without trying to be cool, which is rare for a host entry.
4. Cyprus – Antigoni – "Jalla"
If Finland is the fire, Cyprus is the gasoline.
"Jalla" means "let's go" and that's exactly what it does. Middle Eastern strings, a club beat, and Antigoni just owns the whole thing. I added it to my run mix and my pace instantly got stupid. My neighbors probably hate me because I've been blasting the chorus while cooking.
Why it's stuck: it's the only one that works both in headphones and in a club. Pure energy, zero filler.
5. Bulgaria – DARA – "Lightning"
Okay, full disclosure, I only knew DARA because of the drama on my timeline. Then I actually listened.
"Lightning" is sharp pop with that Balkan edge. The production is super clean, the hook is literally just her spelling L-I-G-H-T, and somehow it works. It's been in my top 5 since April 12 and Spotify Wrapped is already judging me.
Why it's stuck: controversy aside, it's just catchy. Sometimes you don't need a deep reason.
So what do these 5 have in common
None of them sound like last year's Eurovision. Finland brings the folk drama, Denmark brings the feels, Austria brings the club, Cyprus brings the fire, Bulgaria brings the pop punch. My April algorithm basically decided I live in Europe now.
